On Sunday April 1st, my wife and I attended a wine tasting event at the Cavaletti Vineyards tasting room in Moorpark, California. The event was for Sequence Wines , and it was a great opportunity to try some new wines and meet some fun and friendly people.
When my wife and I arrived, we found the tasting room a little more crowded than usual. People were laughing, talking and smiling, which created a warm and inviting atmosphere.

As we walked in, we noticed a table filled with food items to pair with the wine, including cheeses, fruit, meats, crackers, cookies, and brownies.
We were greeted by Dana, one of the wine makers, who was very friendly and welcoming. Her husband then brought us our first taste of the five wines we would be trying that day.

The first wine we tasted was called “Element,” a white varietal harvested in the Santa Ynez Valley. It had a slightly tart and sweet taste with a hint of green apple. I enjoyed it and thought it would be perfect to enjoy on a hot summer day.

The second wine we tried was called “Opacity,” a 100% Grenache Blanc also harvested in Santa Ynez. It had a stronger fruit taste and a more noticeable “apple” flavor than the Element. This wine was much sweeter than the Element, and its scent was a mix of fruit and cream.

Our third wine was called “Revision,” a Zinfandel that was dark red in color with slow legs that lingered on the glass. I noticed a fruity, blackberry scent and tasted hints of light oak and rich black cherries. The fruit comes from the Templeton Gap District of Paso Robles.

“Transition” was the fourth wine we tasted. It’s a Merlot from the Smith Family Vineyard in the Antelope Valley. This wine is 97% Merlot and 3% Tempranillo. It had a stronger oak scent and flavor mixed with hints of vanilla and fruit.

The last wine we tried was called “Mixed,” a red blend with an oak and floral scent and strong fruit flavors. It is a blend of equal parts Petite Sirah from Santa Ynez, Zinfandel from Paso Robles, and Alicante Bouchet from Los Angeles.

Out of all the wines we tasted, my favorite was “Revision.” I really enjoyed the black cherry notes and the rich flavors. This is a wine I look forward to ordering again.

My wife and I had a great time at the Sequence wine tasting event. We loved the wines, met some new people, and made some friends. I look forward to meeting with the wine makers again and learning more about their passion for wine making.
